Principles
The Learn Not to Burn Curriculum is a fire prevention and fire
safety curriculum developed according to the following fundamental principles:
Adaptability and flexibility to permit the inclusion of
new content, new information, and new materials as they are developed.
The provision of a sequential, comprehensive program of instruction
which provides an ascending spiral effect of information, allowing for
an increasing level of comprehension and complexity from kindergarten
through the eighth grade.
Repetition of content areas without excessive duplication
through the use of a cycling process and other appropriate methods.
The inclusion of content areas which contain physical physiological,
psychological, sociological, legal, economic, and ethical aspects of
fire prevention and fire safety.
Focus on content which is readily able to be integrated
into standard subject areas such as math, science, and language arts.
The utilization of a concept approach, with particular
emphasis on fire prevention.
